also, I want to remind people what Luke is actively dealing with. First of all he's dealing with a young girl that has been petty since the beginning. Wearing clothes that are well known to be shirts that he's taking pictures with his ex and nic. Posting and deleting to enrage fans. Dropping pictures where we know they were together . She's very cunning. So I'm sure just based upon what we know that she's going to be messy. So I'm sure he's trying to do everything he can to keep it from being so messy. Then you'll have his friend group. We can all see that Rory was really weird with A. It doesn't take rocket science to know that something between those two was wrong. So Luke has a lot on his plate that he has to care of. One of those things is his best friend for years. No matter how you slice that it's going to hurt. He needed time to heal. He needed time to decide what he wants from his life. He needed time to decide if he was going to work on friendships or was going to let them go. He also has to do it in a way where it doesn't implode his life. He's on a very line. And they've all been very very quiet that to me is alarming. And one thing we know is Nicola will go to bat for Luke. She will let a narrative be put out there to help him. If it gets attention off of him and allows him to break off things, then she would do it. The timing of all of this very interesting. It's not the first time we heard of JD and Nic spending time together. So why did we hear so much silence in the beginning of the summer? Why is it the Nicola jumped online after Italy?When we know Luke came home two days before everybody else. And why is it that we've seen DM backpedal not once but twice now? She's backpedaling pretty hard when she normally doesn't do that. These are things to keep in mind when you're being fed narratives. And that's exactly what's happening. We're being fed a narrative.

My friend and I think that in some ways, N wants to paint this narrative that she isn't perfect either, that way WHEN N/L go public (because I do think it's a WHEN atp for these two), the public narrative will be like "See no one is perfect." REGARDLESS of what has ACTUALLY been going on for these two BTS since the PR tour (because we are just never going to know that whole story).

N LOVES L. This narrative with JD has proved that to me. She is definitely going to bat for him, and JD (one of her very good FRIENDS) has agreed to help. Because let's be honest, people have been holding N on a pedestal, and just been sh*tting on L all summer. But there are a lot of similarities with this JD narrative as there was with the A narrative, but people are responding VERY differently to JD than they did to A, just saying... N might be trying to prove a point, even if the narrative isn't true.

After what N posted after the Italy bday trip, and with this current JD narrative, I am even more certain that something is happening currently for L/N BTS, and we will probably be getting more crumbs. However, as Anon has mentioned, N plays chess, and we can only play checkers. So the public optics might look kind of interesting...

I'm newer here so I wasn't around for the live developments, but from looking at it now, it appears that the DM timeline was: Nicola and Luke attend some dinner together and someone submits a blind to DM that L had kissed a Real Housewife who was sitting next to him on the neck. The woman in question and the dinner host respond, debunking it, saying that L was a gentleman and had a gf. Meanwhile, there are articles out stating that L is single, but there are also A's IG posts. Then, L and N slag DM off in an interview, calling her an unreliable source who had posted lies about L. DM gets pissed off and posts that she has proof that L has a gf and people fight her about it in the comments. Then DM sics Backgrid on L and A on premiere night. L is furious and refuses to play into it, so DM keeps A's name in her mouth to continue to piss him off and hopefully go public with her, thus validating DM as a source. Now Backgrid and People have dollar signs in their eyes, so they keep going after him.

Now, if this is what in fact happened, why are people mad at L exactly? He might've not been serious with A when those original articles came out or was determined to protect her, given what happened with J, so he decided to claim he was single in public but be open about her existence in private. I agree that the people around him have been a bit callous with their posting of him, but are they not allowed to live? It doesn't make sense to me for anyone connected to him to have orchestrated any of this, it looks like DM just has a vendetta against him and Nic, given how she's been targeting her as well lately. It appears she has indeed succeeded in turning public opinion against them. I mean, is there anything I'm missing? Or does the fandom feel gaslit first and foremost, hence the backlash? I know about the HBS behavior, I'm just curious about the infamy of the pap walk and how it squares with them being completely caught unawares and how that would change people's opinion, if at all.

I will say that I don’t think this will be an easy question to answer. Or if I am even able to because it all comes down to what people believe and how they perceive certain situations. It is also not a black and white situation. I believe there are multiple things that took place before and after the premiere night that caused hate and outrage. But the tipping point was definitely the paparazzi walk. 

Your summary about the Deuxmoi timeline is pretty good. But I will say that Brynn Whitfield didn’t say that Luke had a girlfriend, but said “Flattered but definitely not true. Very much a gentleman and I’m very happy to call everyone from the dinner a new and dear friend ❤️." (Although, correct me if I am wrong and Brynn went on to say anything else). 

People knew about Antonia and Luke starting back at the end of 2023, but it didn’t get much traction until New Years, where the video of them kissing came out. After the video came out that is when they officially became friends on Instagram. So even though there were many articles that came out that said that Luke was single, a lot of people knew that he did have a situation with Antonia (and her continued stories and posts with his hands, legs and arms confirmed that there was obviously something there). 

At this time people did not like how she presented herself online (her public persona did not get a warm welcome and a lot of people thought she was baiting the fans with the things she did post). So having her be in photo’s with Luke on the night of the premiere seemed disingenuous towards Bridgerton and season 3. There was a build up to the hate Luke and Antonia got and the paparazzi walk was just the breaking point.

To be honest it wasn’t a good look, but I also do not believe that Luke or his team were responsible for the paparazzi (but some people still think it was a hard launch for his relationship and that him and his team had something to do with it. I can understand why those people would be upset if they still believe that). 

People could be angry with Luke if they still believe he's contributing to media manipulation, which would seem deceitful. I think fans are frustration with him because he appears to be playing games with the media and fans.

I will link my post where I have stated why I DON'T believe Luke or his team were involved. 

There are also people who do feel gaslit, just like you said. This has definitely caused some of the outrage towards Luke and the whole situation. 

There is a slight perception of deception that I can see happening (and not at the fault of Luke really). Articles reporting Luke as single while he was "privately" involved with Antonia, could create a perception of dishonesty. Fans and media might feel misled because Luke's public persona didn't match his private life.

I do think that after the night of the premiere it seemed like Luke didn’t quite understand the backlash he was receiving because of the whole situation, and so when Milan came a couple days later and there was the paparazzi 2.0 (I think people thought it was like pouring salt on a wound). It just didn’t seem like the timing for that was the most ideal. I think it fuelled the fire even more.

It was right after Milan photos came out that Nicola posted her Sex In The City TikTok monologue and I believe crisis management became involved. I think this was Nicola’s way of trying to tell him the hate was really becoming something and he needed to regroup. Then the Jimmy Fallon interview happened. Luke’s team said that the Milan fashion week was Luke’s last stop for the promo tour, and if his team thought it was his last stop, why the Jimmy Fallon interview? Crisis management. Although this is all speculation on my part.

Do I think that Deuxmoi liked the fact that Nicola and Luke both called her out? Nope! And I can see how the timing of everything does make it seem like this is some type of hidden agenda (and I wouldn’t be surprised).

If Deuxmoi is indeed targeting Luke and Nicola out of a personal vendetta, it could make the situation more complicated. The public and fans may be reacting to the drama rather than the facts, leading to misplaced frustration.

I know of two interviews where Nicola did bring up Deuxmoi and how she had to stop reading. The first one being in the Tumblr interview where she says that she had to stop reading when she started to see her friends on it and she would read stuff about herself that wasn’t true.

Then the interview she did in Brazil with Luke where she mentions that the stuff she read about Luke was not true (and she wanted to defend him) and that she has also had some untrue things said about herself. 

The situation involves a mix of media manipulation, public perception, and privacy issues. Like I said earlier it's not a black and white situation. People might be upset with Luke due to perceived dishonesty or frustration with the ongoing drama. The media's role in escalating the situation and targeting individuals also contributes to the overall tension. It’s a multifaceted issue where understanding the full context is challenging and hard to summarize, especially with competing narratives and personal agendas that may be at play. So I hope this somewhat helped? I'm not even sure if I actually answered anything at all?

I also have to say that this is all speculation. I do not know any of the people I have mentioned personally. Anything is possible, but lets show everyone a bit of grace.

Trevor wasn’t going to lie, he did keep some tabs on you. although he didn’t follow you on instagram anymore, his friends did and when there was a major life update they’d update him. “what are we having for dinner?” your fiance asked as he thumped down the staircase. you were fixing your makeup in the living room mirror, getting ready to go meet up with someone you shouldn't. 

“i'm going out, remember?” you asked, turning around so you could fully face your fiance.

“uh, right. with the girls?” he questioned. 

“yeah. we’re going to go hit the bars so i might be home late. You don't have to wait up,” you turned back to the mirror, capping your tube of lipstick and moving on to scrutinise your hair. Trevor always told you he liked it up, so you grabbed an elastic and tried to figure out a style you could quickly do. 

“right. well maybe I'll just order take out or something?” his statement took on a questioning tone and you lightly sighed. 

“yeah that sounds like fun. maybe you can finish that show we’re watching, what's it called again?” you said flippantly, hoping to find something that could distract him from asking too many questions. although you knew there was nothing for him to question you about (it wasn’t unusual for you to go out with your friends) it felt different this time knowing who you were going to meet up with. 

“The White Lotus?” he supplied, but then quickly added “it’s not the same without you. it’d be traitorous to watch without you”. you cringed at the word traitorous but quickly covered it up as you knew he could see your reflection from the mirror.

“maybe you could start a new show?” you stated in a lighter tone “you can tell me all about it when I get back,” you turned around smiling at your fiance. he smiled back and moved over to the couch to find something on the tv. he seemed pleased for the moment and so you decided to make your escape.

“I’ll see you later,” you waved to him from the front door as you gathered the rest of your belongings needed for the trip. 

“no kiss goodbye?” he pouted, causing you to smile. 

“goodbye” you teased, dragging the last syllable out for emphasis. “bye!” he shouted as you shut the door behind you. 

the drive was short, and soon enough you were standing outside of Trevors rental house, unsure of whether or not you should go through with meeting him. you were convinced earlier that you should, but with the deception of your fiance… you felt guilty for what you were about to do.

Trevor opened the door, giving you no more time to question and let yourself be consumed by the fresh waves of guilt washing over you. 

the first thing you noticed when you saw Trevor was his smile. you don’t know what you expected, but he looked the same. he was more grown up of course, but seeing him ignited everything you ever felt for him inside of you. you felt the pain, the heartbreak, and of course the longing and loving that came with being so close to him for so many years. 

“do you want to come in?” Trevor asked in a low tone, momentarily startling you. you nodded in response, and he moved aside to let you in. closing the door shut behind you.

you spent most of the time just talking on his couch. you had gotten the tense apology out of the way, and you couldn’t believe how quickly you were forgiving him. 

“I just think it’s interesting how now-” Trevor leaned over mid sentence, cutting you off with his lips on your own. you didn't pull back, but you didn’t react either, letting Trevor decide how things would go. he pulled away slightly, a soft apology leaving his lips but you couldn’t hear anything.

lust and longing clouded your vision as you pulled him back to you, arm slung around his shoulders as the other lightly caressed his jaw. as soon as you kissed him you started remembering just how Trevor felt before, how often you two would be in situations just like this… how much you had missed him when he left. 

you woke up in the morning in the airbnb bed. 

“good morning” Trevor said lightly as he brushed one of his hands along your hair that was now out of its updo. 

“good morning,” you whispered back as you sat up in bed taking in your surroundings. yours and Trevors clothes were strewn around the room. your body felt on fire once you came to recollect last night's events.

you shut your phone back off and groaned.

“please don’t go,” Trevor pleaded as you stood in the entry with one hand on the doorknob. you quickly dropped your hand. 

“i can’t stay Trev i have a fiance at home and-”

“leave him. just stay with me, please” he pleaded, reaching out a hand to grip yours. you didn’t push him away.

there was a brief silence, “tell me i’m the one you can’t forget” you cut through it. 

“what?” Trevor asked in shock, glancing up to look at your face.

“tell i’m the one person you can’t forget” you basically pleaded, no sense of pride left in your body.

“i can't forget you yn. i haven’t and i won't” he said, moving to stand less than a foot away from you. he leaned down so his forehead was resting against yours and you both sighed out. 

“i’ll see you soon, okay?” you whispered, looking up into his eyes. Trevor nodded slightly, pulling his head away from yours and leaving a small kiss on your forehead. he watched you walk away.

after the first time, you snuck out to meet Trevor multiple times throughout his stay in michigan. things gt tricky with him leaving the airbnb about a week into your rendezvous and moving into the hughes lake house for the summer, but you made it work.

you felt sick admitting it, but you were comfortable with the routine you and Trevor had created. The guilt from sneaking off into the night soon turned into pleasure, and your love for your fiance turned into something meaningless. the vow you were supposed to take in a few short months meaning absolutely nothing to you.

It was one stupid comment made about dress shopping from one of your friends. your fiance had overheard and agreed. he was actually nervous for you. the fact that you might not have your perfect dress weighed heavily on his mind as he kept pestering you to make various appointments at different bridal shops. 

you had tried on about twenty dresses, none of them looking or feeling right. you felt absolutely miserable. the weight of the fabric weighing heavily on your body as the secret you’ve been keeping from you soon-to-be husband weighed on your mind. 

“yn come on, this one looks beautiful on you!” your best friend expressed as your entourage soon became tired of waiting and watching you try on different dresses just for you to reject them.

you smiled lightly in the mirror, letting your hands trail down the dresses bodice and onto the skirt. it would have been perfect if this was what you wanted at all.

“why are you marrying him?” Trevor asked one night. you had your head on his shirtless chest, arm wrapped around him in a makeshift hug.

you tensed at his question. you weren’t even sure why you were going to get married. it had seemed like the natural progression in your relationship earlier, but now with Trevor back… you knew it wasn’t right. 

“i don't know. I feel like i have to” you admit.

“you shouldn’t feel like you have to get married,” he replied, hand resting against your bare back. 

“what other choice do i have?” you replied, sighing as Trevors hand trailed up and down your back softly.

“you have so many options,” he whispered. “you could come back to cali with me or-” you sat up looking down at him. there was a slight blush tinged across his cheeks, and the small smile on his face made you a little nervous.

“Trevor…” you trailed off.

“no, please hear me out. you can move in with me, and we’ll figure it all out” he exclaimed, a slight frown taking over his face at your hesitant reaction.

“i’m comfortable doing this with you,” you gestured between the two of you and the room that you were in, “but leaving… Trevor i don't know how to tell you this but-”

“but what? this isn’t what you want?” he gestured to himself, obviously meaning that you didn't want a relationship with him.

“It's complicated” is all you said, but that wasn’t enough for Trevor.

“this,” he gestured between the two of you and the room just like you had done earlier, “is an affair. yn you’re cheating on your fiance” he stated. “you want to hook up with me? have an affair? fine. i agreed to that. but you can't just say it means nothing to you when you're going so far out of your way to meet up with me. To lie to your fiance that you’re perfectly fine with marrying him despite everything going on with us right now” he said more aggressively as he pushed you aside so he could sit on the edge of the bed, facing away from you.

you stayed silent, taking all of his words in. 

“I’m sorry,” you whispered out as Trevor huffed and got dressed. leaving you behind in the hotel as he left.

it was your wedding day. you were in the dress you had picked out, you had walked down the aisle with your dad holding onto your arm. your fiance had cried, you could see your friends and family smile as the officiant kept talking about promises and forever. 

your vows were over and done with next. You watched in silent horror as your finance professed his love to you in front of everyone you knew. he was holding your hands and you were terrified to break away. scared to continue on with the rest of the ceremony and terrified that you’d have to live the rest of your life out with a man you knew you didn’t love.

“if anyone objects to this marriage, speak now or forever hold your peace,” the officiant continued and you turned, almost comically, to see if there was anyone out there who was going to stop this. 

your eyes were big and wide, you were clearly nervous and scared. your hands that were still holding on to your fiances seemed to be slick with sweat. the wedding party looked around a little nervously at your appearance.

“don’t get married,” a man's voice sounded throughout the tense venue and you visibly relaxed as soon as you saw Trevors mop of hair rise from the crowd. “please yn” Trevor pleaded painfully. 

you didn’t even look back at the man holding your hands before you dropped them. shocked gasps and chatter sounding throughout the hall as you took off running towards Trevor.

more baldur gate

I think I've gathered most of the party now. time to venture forth

we did find another warlock it turned out. they've got a spin on him as a kind of demon slaying folk hero, which is cute. what's weirder to me is when characters will just casually speak of game mechanical stuff like being a 'warlock'. like, oh yeah i made a pact with an eldritch entity beyond space and comprehension, but it's no biggie, you know? there's one in every neighbourhood. though that is something of the problem of Forgotten Realms, it's such a kitchen-sink setting that it's very hard to figure out any sort of coherent narrative thrust for any of it.

my character seems to be settling by default into the kind of default 'pragmatic, generally prosocial crpg hero' model. most of the other dialogue options just seem needlessly standoffish. they do have certain party members disapprove when you take plot hooks, but honestly that all feels a bit silly to take as a prodding to play a more selfish character because like. what do you want me to do, not engage with the game? occasionally you get to click a 'hey, look, I'm also from baldur's gate!' dialogue option, but it never adds up to much.

it's frustrating in a way, because this being so specifically D&D-based really calls attention to the difference between CRPGs and TTRPGs. at the tabletop, I can give my character a distinctive voice, motivation, general habitas - and other players can respond to that and react appropriately. of course, this is not possible in a CRPG to the same degree, except within the rails laid down by the game writers. since the main character is unvoiced and characters react to dialogue the instant you click it, she is even further diminished from the voiced characters.

something noticeable in this is that it has a similar line reading problem as a lot of Bioware RPGs. characters' lines will sometimes noticeably differ in how they're acted - intonation, force, etc. - and there's that ever-noticeable cut between individual lines of dialogue. it has the feeling that the lines were recorded separately in a studio without much in the way of context.

overall the NPC acting in this game is... well it's that classic modern AAA videogame problem right? the character models and rendering are very lifelike when they're still, but the way the characters move is a bit stiff, a bit broad, a bit unnatural. of course nobody has the money to individually hand-animate every single dialogue line in a CRPG of this sort of scale, so they're leaning on canned animations and procedural blending techniques, and it works sorta well enough. it's got that fuzz of videogame jank to it.

it looks like we're about to run into the Evil Races D&D Problem pretty soon, oh boy! the goblins are attacking the poor tiefling refugees. why? i'm sure it will be given a clear understandable motivation and not just that they're evil by nature, right? this is something that I'm pretty sure the game is inheriting from the OG Baldur's Gate games - I definitely remember venturing into a mine to fight gnolls or something. Minsc was there. I have no doubt Minsc will show up in BG3 as well - he's like the most iconic character in the series.

the contrived nature of the premise is classic D&D shit. "you all meet on a mind flayer spaceship, united by parasites in your brain" is definitely the sort of thing that a human DM would cook up as a campaign starting point. that said, it does feel a little weird that everyone on the mind flayer ship between them cover most of the player classes, each with their own colourful backstory and an identically sized tent that they can pitch in your mysterious extradimensional campsite. I think the fact that the introductions are spread out a bit makes it feel more artificial - I get why they didn't want to frontload it with every single character right at the beginning, but it's like, 'damn, this guy has a player character sort of vibe, i bet he was on the airship' and sure enough, he was...

(speaking of the immersion-breaking camp, the respec guy really seems kinda unnecessary as a diegetic element. just have a menu somewhere, trying to make this skeleton guy make narrative sense just raises way too many questions.)

but I mean I can't complain too much that a videogame is a videogame, right? as I recall, in BG1, the recruitable party members were just random adventurers who you'd run into here and there. this is more of a KotOR II-like scenario, where every character has a thing in common that pushes them together.

the Tactician difficulty level, combined with the squishiness of level 2 characters, is definitely pushing me a bit. I had a fight with some bandits. all of them had names and unique voices, interestingly - really applying the Apocalypse World principles. however they will not like, surrender or anything. don't ask me why I was fighting these people to the death, I don't think they did anything that really did any harm to my character, but I wanted to unlock the respec character and you have to get past them to do it. not that I knew that when I saw hostile characters.

anyway, it was a cool fight because it was a bit of party-vs-party - the enemies were using the same abilities I was, and using the environment to their advantage (read: blowing me up with exploding barrels, the nerve of it). Larian of course have their fancy fluid sim system from the Divinity series, which actually integrates rather well with certain D&D spells like Grease. there's a lot of potentially interesting tactical possibilities, although in the end, it came down to the familiar tactics of 'split them up', 'disable them with debuffs' and 'focus dps'. D&D combat is very swingy - once I took out a couple of that other party, the fight was pretty much decided, but when I'd taken a few downed party members, there wasn't really much reason not to just load the quicksave.

I decided to spec my 'lock as a bladelock - I'm playing a chainlock on tabletop so this seemed like a good way to mix it up. of course then it turned out that Wyll is also a bladelock, so he's probably not gonna get much time in the party ^^' but maybe I should bring him along and we can just be warlock buddies. that said... the 4-person party size is... I can see its necessity as a balancing measure, but it does feel like it pushes me towards the standard healer (shadowheart)/tank (lae'zel)/rogue (astarion)/me structure. since I need someone to unlock doors, I need someone to heal, and I need someone to stop the enemy beating up my poor squishy party members. but now I'm a bladelock, maybe I can take over from Lae'zel as the frontliner and free up a slot for one of the other guys. probably it's a big enough game that there will be room to mix and match parties over the course of it.

one thing I do kinda miss from Bioware's games is the intra-party dialogue triggers. the characters here mostly don't have random conversations, at least so far - maybe they will later in the game. that stuff did a whole lot to add life to your party members and make them feel more like characters.

honestly? this is making me want to go back to various isometric CRPGs like Tyranny. so far, despite spicy elements like the mindflayer thing, I'm not fully hooked by this story. but I will give this one a chance all the same.

I definitely feel like I've been way to hard on sylvee because she's literally been around for everything and never responded this way but you're right. I truly think because of the cc sphere she's in they went after her (esp her past friendship with andi and then of course Hannah) we know she's close (was?) with geenelly too who is semi-part of the british crew. There's so many factors and I think it's important to remind ourselves that from what I remember she has besides the unfollowing and dm messages about it- never openly vagued or talked about them openly like others have (correct me if I'm wrong). I really hope she talks to them and they work it out but idk if they'll go back to how they used too. I think eventually her and sapnap might since they seem, from my perspective, the closest but sap is a loyal af. Like I really wonder if him and punz are done. Rip punznap sigh 🙏

Hannah is... more difficult for me, and it makes me really sad. I always used my prime on her and was almost at 2yrs lol though I've been watching her for far longer than that 😞 i really respected how she would try so hard to be careful, nuanced, and respectful in her takes but I truly think her need to be the champion of women streamers has led to blind support in not only just this case. I do think we all agree it's incredibly needed and very admirable especially with how they're still treated in the gaming/cc atmosphere and what she has gone through and experienced first hand, I'm sure there are tons of things we don't know too! However it's also important to know respect nuance in all situations.

I think to her streaming and content will always come 1st- it's her job i get it. Guess you can't blame her but I also can stop watching her for awhile. I also think she's another disillusioned cc who thought after becoming closer with dteam they'd do all this content together and dteam just doesn't work that way they just don't care or need too, you know? Moving to a new state doesn't help and can be really rough for the first year or two and that can hurt. Hannah also clearly cares alot (I'm the same way, it's part of why i liked her) and I'm sure it got frustrating esp because fans kept asking her to do stuff with them but it's the same as jm- if you're tired of it then you need to find a way to deal with it without taking it out on them.

I guess we'll see what happens. I'm really proud of sylvee for acknowledging her part so openly.

yeah I understand and agree anon :) it really is not an easy situation. For me my own comfort is the most important so I stopped watching somw people but I will try to show them understanding and empathy and I hope they can reflect on these decisions and wish them well :)

Hey! Sorry this reply took so long, and that I'm not going to be able to respond quite as eloquently as I want to. I know how much hate comments suck -- I know that you know I know, because I was the first person you thought of. And I know how those negative comments get to you SO much more than the positive ones. But I'm assuming if you're reaching out to me this way, you're a fan of my writing, yes? And perhaps it's even helped you in some way? And I've gotten my fair share of hate comments too. If I had given up on posting because of those comments, you wouldn't be able to reach out to me like this right now.

You're never going to be able to please everyone. In one of my novels, one of my critique partners tore apart one of my scenes and said it was self-indulgent and unnecessary and needed to be cut from the novel, and another said that it was the best scene they'd ever read not just in this novel but in any, and that they read it aloud to their coworkers on lunch.

Also, I'm not sure if this applies to your situation, but if the comment was from a guest account and was pretty vague (nothing specific to the actual fic, just comments about you as an author) it may have been complete spam. Ao3's had some issues with bot spam lately, and on the same day you sent me this ask one of my friends also reached out to me directly in DMs asking about some hate comments they got from guest accounts that were definitely spam. (The bots even used real ao3 usernames, but weren't logged into said accounts, and the usernames weren't in the same fandom as the fic.)

All in all, regardless of whether this was actually "valid" commentary on your writing or not, I don't think you should give up posting -- and I definitely don't think you should give up writing. If writing makes you happy, that's enough. That's why you're writing. You can choose to share it with other people, and their reactions at that point are out of your control, but your goal each time should just be to write something that you enjoyed writing, and that you feel proud of in the end. If you're not there yet, the only way to get there is to keep writing.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? ohhh. i don't write super angsty endings . . . I guess mend into pieces bc it's season 2 and they know they're making a mistake, but we all know they'll figure it out eventually, so.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? they pretty much all end happily. i'm going to more or less randomly pick five ways to say i love you. because i loved writing that ending.

8. Do you get hate on fics? so, okay. there are two stories here i want to tell from an old fandom. one is funny. one is kind of great, really?

the funny one: i got a looooong comment on a fic, like several paragraphs long, going into great detail about why the fic sucked and why i sucked and why i had personally offended them by writing fic at all. they obvs meant to comment anonymously but forgot to log out. by the time i got to my computer, they had deleted their entire account. of course i had their name in the ao3 email. i laughed so hard at that.

the kind of amazing one: i got a very rude anon on tumblr, and i responded by saying i'd be happy to discuss their criticism, but i wasn't going to have a conversation with a hockey puck with sunglasses, and asked them to come off anon so we could talk. and they did! they showed up in my dms a short while later. we solved nothing and did not part as friends, but i actually have mad respect for that. wherever they are today, i hope they have taken some anger management classes and are doing well!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? yeah, i certainly do. idk what kind? the porny kind? lol no i mean it's kind of lame but fun.

10. Do you write crossovers? i wrote a stargate atlantis/firefly crossover centuries ago but that was it. or maybe start trek with sth else, i don't remember.

i feel like one of the confusing aspects of this game is mspar or any of the characters mentioning how hard it is to get into contact with anyone when they have chittr, and even if it doesn't have dm's it has a way to respond to peoples posts.

granted i know why they don't type out responses to mspar and mspar doesn't type any to others (would be a bitch to code i'd take it) but it does make the writing off (or just make everyone look pretty lazy especially when mspar was announced by the empire as early as volume 1 and multiple times character's will @ their account specifically when finding them so it's just a bit weird when it implies its so hard to contact eachother despite that)

This is a really interesting point, and I think it's worth a response. It is implied that DMs exist - I think there's a Tyzias/Daraya exchange that mentions them

It's a combination of:

Narrative conceit (not so much "a bitch to code" and more "a bitch to write all the exchanges for")

Not wanting to directly contact people via a social media system that's probably heavily monitored (especially for those who're trying to stay more-or-less off the grid)

MSPAR doesn't really understand how to use Chittr

Also, some of it is because characters aren't followed by MSPAR on Chittr at first (implying they don't know what their Chittr is) - like, their difficulty finding the jades is partly because they lost contact with them (the game adds them to Chittr only once meeting up with them in person again). The game doesn't do a great job of lampshading that, but there are definitely people who won't show up on your Chittr list at first.

A lot of people just kind of can't/won't use Chittr in a meaningful way - like, everyone in the Army or Fleet has lost access to it, as an example.

I think, in hindsight, we probably could've played around a bit more with this - like, either MSPAR's account is explicitly listed as being restricted or they do try to send a DM and it leads to issues because it gets intercepted. The next few volumes are going to move very rapidly away from Chittr being important to the plot (for reasons which will quickly become apparent), but it's a good note in general - thanks for the ask!

snowbaz, definitely. it’s been my longest-running OTP (do people still say OTP?) and i’ve written so any fics for it.

hmm, i’ve only got 3 wips and i think i’ll finish them all eventually, but blow on the tinder and we are slaves to the gods are definitely on the back burner for now.

i’ve been told i’m good at writing dialogue, which is good because that’s two thirds of all the words i write.

descriptions and anything sappy, which gives me second hand embarrassment.

i tend to shy away from it, but if i do i always put it in italics and will put a translation in the notes unless it’s super obvious, and like when other authors do the same.

Percy Jackson! I wrote so much solangelo and was actually pretty popular on wattpad, one of my fics broke a million hits which is still insane to me. i still get the occasional message asking me to come back and finish my fics, but i logged out of that account in 2018 and am not going back.

oh, that’s hard. i’m really enjoying writing Shoulder To Shoulder right now, but i still love All That She Wants and Liar Liar. i also really love I’m On My Way To Believing, which is a greek mythology Pyrrhus/Hermione fic. they’re my blorbos. but i’d have to say my all-time favourite will always have to be the first carry on fic i ever wrote, which got me out of a years long writing slump: Rats.

Hi! I've reached a hundred followers recently, and I know that it may seem minor to some people, but I'm very happy to see I've gotten this far, and thank you to anyone who followed me. I appreciate it, truly.

So, to celebrate, I'd like to try out a new way of writing fics!

You can interact with the characters. But, because I'm a fic-lover, this operates a bit different (not better, just in my own style of course!) in the way the RP works.

Before I continue any further, I know some of you may not be interested, and I don't want to end up annoying you due to dash clog! So, here's the tag to block if you don't want to see any of this - #100 follower special <3

If you are - or think you might be - interested, here's how it works.

You send in an ask addressing a character of your choosing. You can put in as much or as little content as you'd like! If you'd like to RP as an OC of yours, you can send any necessary context in the ask or just DM me. Same goes if you'd like me to make a small interaction involving an AU you have.

You can even RP as a canon character for either romantic or platonic ficlets with other characters! So, if you have a rare pair (hello fellow azurido lovers please hear me out), consider coming to me and giving me a chance for a little bit of extra content with them <3.

Of course, this isn't just for rare pairs - any ship can be done, provided it isn't unethical or illegal (no staff x student, no grim x anyone, etc).

After receiving your ask, I'll make a small ficlet where the character you're sending an ask to responds in whatever fashion you'd like! If you'd like to extend

And as Deuce munched on the tart, sorrows forgotten, Azul had to celebrate a job well done.

I do my best to! Sometimes it's pretty difficult though. On wips I try to respond to old comments before posting the next chapter but sometimes I forget.

So ignore the fact that I wrote a sequel but probably What I Create Is Chaos. I toyed with just leaving it there with the angst but decided against it. In my drafts, though, I have some really angsty fics, but I don't know if I will post them.

and you understand now... but literally everything I write is a happy ending I feel. I love to read angst and whump but then when it comes to writing I feel like I need to have it all end up happy.

I haven't yet, but I have considered it! The hard thing is I don't know what I would do for a crossover. I have had ideas (legally blonde lestappen) but I haven't taken the time to write them yet.

What's your all-time favourite ship?

It is so hard to decide. Like, Lestappen was what got me to start writing fanfic again in college so they're definitely up there! But I was also a zutara girlie and would read anything that put Sansa Stark in a good light.

What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

Here We Go Kentucky. It was a Loscar angst fic that I just can't find inspiration for. I really adored Loscar, but with Logan losing the seat mid-season, it's kind of hard to write this now because it followed until the end, and I can't get the timeline to work.

I had an F1 mythology AU too that I never got around to finishing! The general concept was kind of a character study looking at drivers that refuse gifts from the gods to earn their achievements on merit versus those who make deals to get ahead. There were some that started on merit and then cut deals later on and paid the price and those that became really disillusioned with it all...

There's also an Olympics AU lol. Charles is a diver, and Max is a cyclist, and they keep running into each other every 4 years. They hook up every time. Charles is obsessed with Max's thighs.

What are your writing strengths?

I don't know! All of my writing is self-indulgent, so I'm not sure what my strengths really are! I just like to write and get the ideas out. I'm sure when I have more time, I'll focus more on my technique but for now it's a fun hobby.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Time management, for sure. I should not do multichapter yet I keep doing multichapter. Also, there are grammar errors (see above, lol).

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

It depends on the fic and the context. I think pet names are cute and easy to do! But full conversations can be a bit cumbersome. I think it works best when certain phrases are interspersed throughout, so it's not a full conversation in a different language, but you can still derive the meaning.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

It was Harry Potter or Percy Jackson. I was 12 and impressionable. To be fair though, there are fics from both of those that I still love to this day.

What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?

I've got some galex drafts going! I really love them as a ship, so I wanted to explore it a bit. They're kind of on the backburner though until Stranger Skin is finished :)

What's your favourite fic you've written?

I really liked fate (in slow motion), even if it isn't my best! There were some lines in it that I really enjoyed writing and it came together pretty quickly and felt cohesive. I like the vignette style too! I have to see if I can bring it back at some point.

BEST EXPERIENCE : i've had sooooo many positive experiences on here, it's really hard to name them all tbh! and also because my memory sucks. the most recent joy i've had is when i made my official comeback on this blog with the shiny new url, and katsuki immediately beefing with monoma (ily viverra), while getting a welcome from other muses of friends i've known since i started writing him in 2021.

RP PET PEEVES / DEALBREAKERS : i like to think of myself as fairly tolerant, mostly because i consider myself guilty of some dooming ones (namely anti-social, low/no interaction, etc). but i have one big one i guess;

clique-y behaviour. this is noooot something i've seen in this rpc (as far as i can tell? which, thank god), but i'm a veteran who was in the trenches of the fantasy rpc while dragon age was the leading fantasy media. it was pretty common for groups to band together, which is fine, people click! but then it became impossible to interact with anyone from those groups, because they'd only interact with each other. it's also this weird, i dunno, expectation for canon muse blogs outside of a "clique" to mirror the one that's inside that clique, you know what i mean? it made me thankful that i was writing an inquisitor instead of a canon muse there, but yikes...

MUSE PREFERENCES: i reeeeeeally like it when someone has meticulously pulled apart a muse and put them back together with their personal understandings on how they think / act / work in their media. SO MUCH. i love the in-depth lens they give their character that way, canon or oc, divergent or compliant, WHY they choose to go either way. gimme someone who has loved their character so well that you can see the dedication in everything they write about them. gimme muses that are a myriad of deep understandings from the mun about their lore, their personalities, their actions, and even their respective universes. i'll never get enough of it.

PLOTS OR MEMES : ahhhh i'm so bad with both... i'm more consistent with memes for interaction, and even if it takes me a week (or three months) to get to it, i will more often than not FINALLY find a way i want to respond to something. but for a good and strong bond, i adore plotting. i struggle with consistency sometimes because i tend to tap out of social interaction quickly, but once you get the ball rolling, once we have an idea to latch onto, it's pretty smooth from there i think. i love seeing how we can get two characters to work. my strongest bonds on this blog come from me goofing around in dms with people and coming up with some of the best, funniest, sweetest, and heart-breaking content for our muses.

LONG OR SHORT REPLIES : i write long replies a LOT more than i do short ones. this is mostly a skill issue. once i have a train of thought, i keep writing and forget to slow down a bit... and i love to have my little essay replies to read when i come online. they're so much fun to me. but i also treasure short replies, because sometimes, a short reply carries enough to pack a punch!

BEST TIME TO WRITE : ha. ahaha. seeing as it's 2:30am while i'm doing this on the night i had to do my medication, so long as i feel well enough, i'll write at any time. sometimes early morning, sometimes afternoon, sometimes night, sometimes in the ungodly hours where i should most definitely be asleep.

ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE(S) : ............... sometimes. usually when i'm playing an anger-inducing video game. also that gifted kid perfectionist thing.

New Part-Timer

Akk was doing another opening shift at the coffee shop when he first met Ayan. Being the owner and sole worker there, he desperately needed the help. Keeping a part timer was difficult when you were as strict as him, he found out.

Thinking back now, the other was being very obvious with his feelings and words, Akk was just blind to it. Ayan walked in, 15 minutes before opening and right on time for his first shift. He was the new trainee who Akk was training on opening. The shorter male wore his bangs swept back, uniform loose and rumpled slightly. A small gold hoop hung from one ear and a large smile graced his features.

“Hey! Are you the manager?” The casual greeting surprised Akk

“Yes. Please be more formal.” He gently corrected it. “My name is Akk, but you can refer to me as manager.” While the man is sure he comes off as cold, he doesn’t want any boundaries to be crossed,especially this early.

“Okay! My name is Ayan, Aye is fine though.” The reply was oddly smooth and Akk turns away, not willing to further ponder the situation.

“Then, I’ll begin explaining things before we open, Ayan. You’ll be mostly a cashier today while you get up to speed.”

Ayan pouted lightly at blatantly being called Ayan, but said nothing and complied. He had just started here after all, and the manager was pretty cute, cold personality and all. Hopefully, he'll warm up and call him Aye soon enough. Even if they didn’t get far in anything he’d like to at least The morning was busy, per usual of a monday morning, but it wasn’t Ayan’s first time working in a place like this either, so it was fine with him. By noon, it had cleared out considerably and Ayan leaned against the countertop, scanning the room to see how many were left. Satisfied with the meager 4 customers still sitting and occupied he turned back to Akk.

For Akk’s part, he was always busy, never once looking up from his task, except to give instructions. This one was diligent for sure. Was he straight though? Any flirting he had said so far seemed to go right over his head.

“So… Got a girlfriend?” He figured this was better than feeling out a straight person for the next 4 hours.

“I do not believe that is appropriate.” The response appeared professional, but Ayan could tell the manager was definitely flustered. Private man, then.

“Oh? I was just curious about my manager. It seems like we’re the only two who work here, so I don’t wanna work here 4 times a week and never learn anything. Besides, it’s getting pretty slow here.” The shorter male counted off several reasons to support his idea, while he really just wanted to know if he had a shot, or not. Akk didn’t need to know that.

“If you must know, no.” The response was on the quieter side, suggesting he truly did not want to talk about it. Embarrassed maybe? Ayan hummed in response. He supposed being single in their culture was frowned upon. Especially since he had his own business and everything.

“Hmm… Me neither, but I’m gay, so that checks out. But why are you too busy for a girl?” Even though it sounded smooth and calm, that sentence was more so practiced and charged. No point in hiding it, however. If he was gonna hit on the guy, he’d know anyway.

“Oh. I… don’t really care. And no, not that either. Girls don’t like my personality too much…” The manager responded slower.

“Cool. Part of the reason I quit my last job. Way too much harassment for my sexuality.” Another heart thudding but practiced sentence from Ayan, and the manager hummed but said no more. Waiting in silence, Ayan internally winced. Might have gone too hard on that one.

“I’m not going to fire you for it. Like I said, I don’t care. Also, you’re the only part timer I have anyway.” The response sounded calculated, and Ayan smiled. He had been thinking about what he was gonna say.

“Aw, manager, how sweet.” He smiled and Akk, glanced over coldly, although his demeanor seemed partially forced now.

“Get back to work. Go wipe the espresso machine.” And wandered to the back mumbling something about inventory. Humming away, Ayan got to cleaning.

That day ended without much more fuss and when the clock hit 4 pm, Ayan clocked out and left. Akk stayed behind, tying up some other loose ends before heading out himself at 5. The new recruit worked pretty well, but his uniform was sloppier than he’d like. He’d correct him on that tomorrow. Customer service was satisfactory, conversation seemed to flow better than any other part-timer he had, and didn’t seem in a hurry to quit.

“Firing people just because they're gay, stupid.” He muttered while gathering the rest of his paperwork to mull over at home. What does sexuality have to do with work anyway? Wait, why did he care anyway? Ayan’s past employment wasn’t his problem. Shouldering his bag, he went home.

The next day, Ayan arrived at the same time and jumped in where he was already instructed. Conversation flowed once again and Akk could not remember work going this fast. By the time Ayan’s shift was ending, he felt a little sad. Perhaps he was lonely after working alone all these years.

“Hey boss, can I call you that?” Ayan suddenly spoke and Akk nodded.

“Yes. What is it?”

“Why am I the only part timer? I mean it’s pretty busy, pays well, and you could probably use a few more hands.” The question was innocent but Akk internally winced.

“Reasons…” He tried being vague.

“Like? You aren’t a murderer or something right?”

Akk turned, shocked at the question, then saw a smirk on the other person's face. Great, he was messed with. “No… They just say I give too much work and have a terrible personality. Happy?” He finally huffed out. Unlike Ayan there, he had the sociability of a rock and the bendability of a wooden ruler.

“What? But it’s work! Like I think you’re just doing boss things.” The other seemed totally surprised. “Besides! It’s a busy place. Of course we’re busy.” The response was quite a shock to Akk and he hoped the little spark of happiness he got didn’t show. Ayan may change his mind at any moment, he reminded himself.

“Well, it is what it is. Get back to work. Yell if it gets really busy, I’m gonna do inventory.” He wandered back toward where extra stock was kept and heard the affirmative reply as he left. ‘Don’t get your hopes up.’ He reminded himself. ‘He said he was gay not desperate.’

During the remainder of the shift, the mood stayed relatively good between the two of them, even during really busy times. Due to the larger volume of customers though, not much conversation happened. They did touch multiple times, but it wasn’t uncomfortable at all. In fact, Akk felt it was slightly comforting even.

The thought surprised him and the male grimaced lightly. He really must be lonelier than he thought. Thankfully, it was busy up until it was time to close, and Ayan left without seeming to notice Akk’s plight.

“Get it together. You need to stay professional. If he quits, you are screwed.” He reminded himself, deciding to walk home today. The cool air might clear his head.

Unfortunately for Akk, it would only last that evening. Ayan did not quit, Akk could not shake off his slow attraction to Ayan, and before he knew it months had passed and it almost felt like Ayan was hitting on him daily. Honestly, it was driving the male crazy and the serious male was unsure of what to do about it. He wouldn’t fire an amazing worker because he couldn’t get himself together, but also the taller one did not want to harbor weird feelings towards the other for forever.

Distracted by his own thoughts, the owner failed to realize said worker occupying his thoughts was approaching with an uncovered and hot coffee.

Turning, he knocked the employee and drink straight to the grown, the contents splashing all over. “Ah!”

Panicking, he hurriedly grabbed a cold rag.

“I’m so sorry. I wasn’t paying attention.” His eyes bellied his own disappointment and the owner carefully wiped the areas where he clearly had the liquid spilled onto him.

“Nah, it’s chill. I should’ve put a lid on it, haha.” He tried to brush it off, but Akk knew he was really preoccupied and would’ve still knocked the over, even if the drink was covered.

“After work… Can I talk to you?”

“Huh? You aren’t gonna fire me, are you?!” The shorter male seemed to panic and Akk shook his head.

“Don’t be ridiculous. You are one of the best part timer’s I’ve ever had.” He reassured the other. “But I do have something to tell you.”

“Ok… But I really don’t wanna quit either, if you are gonna ask me to.”

“You really have had tons of horrible bosses, huh?”

“Comes with the territory.” Ayan shrugged, and stood up.

“Alright, I’m gonna dry off my pants some. I’m not burned anywhere too badly, but I don’t wanna stay moist the whole shift. I still have…” He glanced at the clock. “4 hours after all.”

“Yeah, and let me know if you need a break before continuing.” Akk went to mop up the mess on the floor, still cursing his own inattentiveness.

The day ended without further incident, but Akk could tell Ayan was at least slightly worried. Probably still hung up about being fired or something.

‘Man his past employers must have been real jerks.’ The thought came unbidden and Akk wanted to dunk his head into the freezer. Just to cool it off.

“I’m gonna lock the doors!” Ayan called and Akk nodded, absentmindedly. He must’ve been spacing out for a while, however, because the other had enough time to lock the doors, flip the closing sign, and even change before appearing in front of him.

“So? What did you need?” His head tilted to the side and Akk cursed himself for finding it cute.

“I… I think I have feelings for you. I understand if you do not wish to continue here. It’s a very inappropriate crush to harbor and–.”

“Stop, woah, woah, woah! Whatever gave you the idea that would make me quit? I’ve thought you were cute since day 1! I asked if you had a girlfriend to see if you were straight! I’ve been flirting with you since I started! I thought you were gonna fire me just for that .” The rush of words shocked Akk and then he realized he was a grand idiot.

“I… pardon?”

“You heard me. Hey, can I kiss you?”

Akk nodded dumbly and Ayan easily closed the gap between them. The resulting kiss was chaste, soft and pure. Ayan’s hand gently touches Akk’s cheek and the tall man leans in, enjoying the contact.

Pulling back, Ayan smiles. “That was great. Also, next time you jump to conclusions that are really self-deprecating, I’m gonna just kiss you ok?” Pulling out his phone, he hands it to Akk.

“Here, put my number into your phone, then we can set up a full first date, ok? He smiles at the other and AKk nods still absently.

That was honestly his first ever kiss and every part of it felt amazing and better than he had ever expected it to be. Armed with his employee’s number and plans for a first day, he goes home with a pep in his step today and a small smile.

In hindsight, it really was stupid of him to miss all the obvious signs, but at least he worked up the courage to solve the situation, even if it wasn’t what he thought would happen.
